Meliá International Pilots Oracle Key and Payment Bracelet with a Unique twist

Melia Hotels International is piloting a custom developed key/payment bracelet in two of its properties in Magaluf.

The bracelet was developed by Oracle Hospitality in a very short timeframe and acts as a key for the hotel doors as well as a payment method for hotel clients. The unique function of the bracelet is that it can be used for paying not only in the hotel but also in other shops and F&B outlets around Magaluf such as Starbucks and Mango.

The Oracle Key bracelet uses Bluetooth and NFS technology, users can install a free application on their phones to see their spending. Shops that want to accept the bracelet as payment method don’t require any additional hardware or specific POS technology. The payment interface can run on any NFS capable mobile phone and just requires the free Oracle Hospitality payment app.

The development and implementation of this new technology was headed by Melia Digital, the technology business unit of Melia International leading Innovation for the group. Melia Digital has worked with Oracle Hospitality and Mastel Hospitality to develop the scope for this project which was then implemented by Oracle Hospitality.

Melia Hotels International CEO Gabriel Escarrer said: At Meliá Hotels International we imagined a new type of vacation in which guests could enjoy all of our hotel services without having to worry about carrying around cash or ID. That is now a reality thanks to this innovative project in partnership with Oracle.

Following the pilot in Magaluf, Melia International is looking to implement the Hospitality technology in four more hotels during 2019.
